Climate, wind and weather

Liguria offers a unique, mild coastal climate: pleasantly temperate winters are never followed by hot summer months. In this region prevails a Mediterranean climate, that is – due to the high, coastal mountain ranges - characterized by great differences.

The Ligurian coast could be described as a simple or moderately difficult yacht charter area. In case there is no north wind, there are slight north currents along the Ligurian coast.

Repeatedly you will meet cooling or cold winds from the north, sweeping over the warm air islands near the coast. During the sailing season (early to late summer) the wind often blows from different directions, especially west and north winds of up to 4 Bft. are omnipresent. Be careful in the low-season! It is important to exercise caution as strong winds can occur quickly. Especially the Libeccio coming from the south-west can be dangerous.

The coastal region of Tuscany is considered as well a simple or medium-heavy yacht charter area. Here you will also find a Mediterranean climate. In case you prefer to be on your own with a luxury sailing yacht, this area is especially suitable for beginners and family trips. In summer, there are primarily weak to moderate northwest winds. If you are more adventurous, you could also consider a walk on the wild side to Corsica, where you will find strong winds now and then. Because of visible shallows under the water surface, caution is advised at Elba. In order to find optimal sailing conditions, we recommend a luxury sailing charter in the months of May, June and September!
