The Northern Sporades are located to the east of the mainland region of Thessaly in the area of central Greece. The most important islands of this charter area are the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, which represent a natural paradise with lush vegetation and wonderful bathing bays. During your luxury charter, you will also find a national marine park here, which serves as a sanctuary for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. If you are interested in a luxury charter in the Northern Sporades, the selection of luxury yachts is very limited. The best option would be to charter from Marina Skiathos, which is located on the eponymous island of Skiathos. The easiest way to get there is by plane via Skiathos Airport. With 350 berths and a maximum ship length of 65m and 10m draft, luxury yachts can also be easily accommodated here.
There is a lot to discover on the Island of Skopelos! If you want to marvel at the film locations of “Mamma mia”, this is just as possible as many other natural and cultural highlights that you can find on this green pearl in the North Aegean. The many pines are typical of this island and sometimes extend to the surge area of the sea. On the beaches of Milia, Elios, Armenopetra, Panormos, Velanio, Antrines and Agnontas, pine trees also offer you a pleasant protection from the sun.
There is also a lot to see for those interested in culture: if you head to the Hora (capital) of Skopelos, for example, you will immerse yourself in a picturesque labyrinth of whitewashed little streets that will fascinate you. If you climb the path up to the Byzantine castle ruins, carefully maintained houses with flower terraces and color-coordinated door and window arches will attract your attention. The architectural style is unique! The former owners of these well-preserved town houses were rich merchants, landowners or seafarers who made money. The approximately 40 small churches and chapels also testify to the religiousness of the local population from then and now. Lean back and relax with a good drink in one of the many cafes. The hospitable owners will be happy to cater for you!
The port of Loutraki, which dates back to ancient times, is also worth seeing. Roman artifacts such as former bathing areas were found here. The arts and crafts are still very important here, which benefits you: Family businesses have been producing beautiful brassware, embroidery and vases of all shapes for generations; you will surely find a suitable souvenir for your loved ones at home!
Another attraction is the Agios Ioannis Monastery in Kastri, which sits imposingly on the top of a mighty rock. You have to climb over 100 steps before reaching the monastery, which became famous via a wedding scene in the film Mamma Mia.
Don`t miss to head for the Island of Alonissos during your luxury charter! This is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Here you can let your mind wander! In the southern part of the island, you will also find some amazing beaches that are waiting for your visit. In the central area of the island, you will find the main settlement Hora of Alonissos and some very well developed hiking trails. These hiking paths lead you through wonderful landscapes and help you to forget the stress of everyday life! Pine forests combined with cedar and holly will line your path. If you make your way to the chapel of Agion Anargyron, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular panoramic view of the island!
Don`t miss to walk through Hora in the evening, when visiting the largest settlement on this island, because at dusk you will find an impressive backdrop: the old streets of the traditional city are almost mystical when the evening glow illuminates this place and the surrounding seascape. In the old Hora of Alonissos, the houses line up like an army in a row and seem to guard the Mediterranean!
As mentioned at the beginning, this region is also known for the Mediterranean monk seal, which has found a home on Alonissos. A national marine park set up here serves as a conservation area for this already endangered seal species. It is one of the last places of refuge for this very rare mammal. To protect the animals, however, it is forbidden to enter the sanctuary either from land or from the sea.
Divers will also find exciting discoveries on this island, ranging from ancient ships from the Greek era to medieval transport ships. If you would like to visit a traditional festival, you should not miss the thresher festival! The traditional food, the typical singing and the exuberance of the islanders will enrich your luxury trip and make your vacation unforgettable!
