The coastal region of Split, with the large offshore islands of Hvar and Brac, is certainly one of the most beautiful regions in Dalmatia. Located in the city harbour near the peninsula Sustipan, you will find the well-developed and large ACI Marina Split. Mega- and luxury yachts up to 60 m in length can be moored here effortlessly. From here it is worth a nice walk along one of the most beautiful and longest promenades of Croatia to the old town of Split, where you can discover countless sights. From the ACI Marina Split you already have an excellent view of the Diocletian's Palace, a well-preserved ancient palace from Roman times, which is one of the highlights of Split.
Split has very good public transport connections, including the international airport Split, a good motorway connection and many ferry connections.
An equally good starting point for your luxury charter is the small town of Trogir, which is not far away from Split and has also a very good connection to Split airport. The ACI Marina Trogir and the Marina Trogir SCT are located next to each other and they are both towards the historical old town of Trogir, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is also worth a visit!
This archipelago offers many day trips, including a visit to the islands of Jerolim, Stipanska, Zdrilica, Palmižana and Vlaka. The protected ACI Marina Palmižana is located in the same-named bay on the island of Sveti Klement.
From this marina, which also offers a wide range of services, you can reach after a short walk a beautiful sandy beach, where you will also find some restaurants offering a variety of fish dishes. The local cuisine of these islands has an excellent reputation and was praised by many international trade magazines.
You should definitely visit the same-named town of Hvar with its small alleys, the nice promenade and the local attractions like the main square "Hvarer Pjaca" with the St. Stephans Cathedral. In addition to the countless tasty fish and seafood dishes, you can also get local specialties such as a gingerbread, which is made of saffron. French cuisine found its way since the Napoleonic Wars, including the frog brodet on baškotin (rusk), where frog’s legs are sprinkled with lemon juice and then cooked with other ingredients at lower heat before being served with rusk. Hvar is also known as the Lavender Island, as the sight and scent of lavender fields can be seen on Hvar especially in June (also imported by the French at the beginning of the 19th century). Its fragrance causes wonders and has a calming and invigorating effect on the body, mind and soul at the same time - try it out!
Another highlight in this region, which should be mentioned briefly, is the blue cave near the small island of Biševo, which, depending on the daytime, offers a variety of light effects inside the cave and conveys a very special atmosphere.
As you see, there is much to discover, what why even a two-week luxury charter will not be boring!
Maestrale (also called Maestral) - This wind should not be confused with the "Mistral" of the Rhone valley in France, which is extremely unpredictable! Maestrale, on the other hand, is typical and common fair-weather wind that will often guide you during the yacht charter in Croatia. It starts in the late morning and lasts until the evening, mostly with wind forces up to 4 Beaufort. Deep blue sky, rare clouds, sailor courage! What else do you need? Maestrale is a thermal wind and it forms due to faster air heating on land than at sea. Therefore, the air flows over the land, blowing in the lower layers from the sea to land, and in the upper area, it blows back into the sea. This creates the perfect wind dynamics for sailors, which lasts from 10 to 18 o'clock. The opposite effect is often observed during the night in a less intense form: Burin, a night wind, caused by faster cooling of the land mass by the sea.
Jugo - This is where the weather gets worse, it blows from the southeast. First, there is a harsh weather, followed by the rain and the strong wind, which develops a force up to 7 Beaufort. It takes a day or two, then it ceases. However, in autumn and spring, it can also blow stronger and longer, so it should not be underestimated.
Bora - This wind (female) is dangerous, but fortunately quite rare. Bora blows from the northeast and comes with the proverbial clear sky! It is not uncommon that the wind speed rises up to 9 Beaufort on the mainland. This is caused by a large difference in the air pressure between the water and the mountains. It usually only lasts one day, then it is over and the wind is moderate again.
